On August 21, music enthusiasts gathered at the beautiful Mycroft Manor for an unforgettable evening of artistry at the VYRS concert titled “From Baroque Elegance to Modern Vibrance: A Flute and Piano Journey.”
This remarkable program, featuring pianist Sunny Qu and flutist Laura Trainini, took the audience on a captivating musical voyage through time, beginning with the graceful sonorities of Bach’s Sonata in E Major, BWV 1035, and Mozart’s Violin Sonata in E Minor, K. 304, artfully adapted for flute. The concert seamlessly transitioned to contemporary works, highlighting the minimalist allure of Philip Glass’s Love Divided By, the tranquil beauty of Ian Clarke’s Orange Dawn, and the dynamic brilliance of Patrick Nunn’s Sprite for solo piccolo.
The event was a resounding success, drawing an audience that included esteemed guests such as consulates from Italy & from other countries, friends’ from North West Piano Ensemble Society, University Women’s Club of Vancouver, Tom Lee, and Vancouver Island Music School.
A special highlight of the evening was a performance by The VYRS’s celebrated young artist, 9-year-old Ethan Jin, who delivered a moving rendition of Peer Gynt, Op. 23: Solveig’s Song alongside Laura Trainini. This diverse piece underscored the boundless versatility of the flute and piano duo, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.
